2 months since I last posted anything…
13 05 2009…but that’s because I have good reason to not blog!
For most of you who’re probably not in the know, I will be getting hitched to my lovely wifey, HS, this coming July. The wedding prep, plus a tonne of work back in the office (what with me having to give a presentation to like 300 people), things were definitely a little too hectic for my taste; I hardly get to shoot anymore!
Well, besides at official events related to work, but I can’t share those here, unfortunately.
Somehow I managed to squeeze in a couple of reviews for HWM on the side (read: pro-bono), just cause I miss playing around with new gadgets and the like. It’s like a drug or something; you start to feel the withdrawal symtom once you stop touching new tech for like a week or two.
But in any case, I hope to at least practice my writing here, since I hardly get to write anything in my present job. Hope to squeeze out more time in the near future too

Here’s to a good 29th!
15 02 2009Might not exactly be a happy one, but I’m just that step closer to the big three-o!
Ah…how time flies, and I do sincerely wished that I was snowboarding down a mountain of powder-like snow, just like what these guys are doing.
Powder Mountain Perspective from Ian Provo on Vimeo.
The footage was captured using a 5D Mk II (my dream camera, for the moment) in a protective plastic bag, coupled with a 15mm fisheye. Video quality is, again, excellent.
If only I was shooting for a living, maybe then I could afford both the holiday AND a new camera

In order to get the best shot…
14 02 2009…you do not lie/squat in front of a car that’s probably travelling at 100km/h. Seriously.
Check this video out.
The guy is certainly lucky he wasn’t decapitated when the rally car zoomed by. Sure, pity the expensive DSLR that went flying through the crowd to land in the snow, but at least his head was still on his shoulders when that did happen.

Getty, Flickr on the brink of an alliance
10 02 2009Wow, it’s been a while since I last posted. Too much work and it comes down to this…heh…oh well, I hope that this picks up eventually. As much as I adore photography, too much of real work tends to take the joy out of weekend photographic adventures.
So, I just found this news article on the British Journal of Photography (full story can be found here). It seems that Getty and Flickr are on the brink of forming an alliance, in which ordinary people (like you and me) could eventually become great photographers, with their works making appearances in international publications! I’m actually on the verge of gushing here…
Every time I interviewed a photographic great (when PVi was still around), I was always intrigued by how they managed to get their photos into the international publications. Surely, we do have some local photographers who have had their work published in international journals and publications (Michael Aw, Julian W., and possibly my ex-boss John Cosgrove, although I never really did ask him), but this alliance will see ordinary folks getting a shot at international fame.
The only problem? You have to be invited to share your photos.
For all those aspiring photographers out there looking for a way through to international fame – never give up. Keep shooting, share those shots with the world.
The whole world’s watching

Family Outing @ Marina Barrage
4 01 2009In between June Hwee’s wedding at Carlton Singapore and Maddy & Hanwei’s ROM at Halia Restaurant (review here), my family took a trip down to Marina Barrage. While the view was excellent, the weather didn’t quite agree with that fact. The threatening rain clouds peppered drizzle over us as we walked through the structure. Here are a few photos I captured of my nephews, plus other random shots
